The journey to Green Steps Travel

For years I have traveled. Out of curiosity, for fun and to find peace and relaxation in nature. But also to discover other cultures and to gain knowledge as a travel consultant. I never thought that one trip would be decisive for me. That trip turned everything upside down. Why did I want to travel, what does travel really mean to me and why do I love doing it? What is my motivation to show others the world?

The kingdom that stole my heart
In 2019, I took an unforgettable trip to Kwazulu Natal in South Africa at the invitation of Isibindi Lodges. This region, known as the "kingdom of Zulu," enchanted me with its rich nature, culture and history. I spotted hippos in St. Lucia, giraffes and zebras en route to Cape Vidal, and during game drives I met elephants, buffalo and countless other wild animals.

The breathtaking sunsets, panoramic views and the unique iSimangaliso Wetland Park - with its azure shores, white beaches and ancient dunes - made this trip an experience I will never forget.

Sustainable initiatives of Isibindi Lodges
During my trip, I was introduced to inspiring sustainable initiatives from several lodges. Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge works with the Mpembeni community and a nature park manager to create employment opportunities, generate income for conservation and encourage local empowerment.
At Thonga Beach Lodge, together with the Isibindi Foundation, they support the community with employment and education, and protect leatherback and hawksbill turtle nesting sites.

At Kosi Forest Lodge, the owners work closely with the local Mnyayisa community. Together they have established the Vulindlela vegetable garden, a wonderful initiative that not only provides the community with fresh produce, but also allows the lodge to source locally.

This collaboration goes beyond food: every month they organize joint cleanups to remove litter in the Kosi Lake System.

Ecological, small-scale and giving back to nature

During my trip, I discovered something special: in the middle of pristine nature, I saw how luxury and eco-tourism can go together perfectly. The lodges are small-scale, leaving nature undisturbed. But it goes beyond that: they are deeply intertwined with the local community and support sustainable projects in education, employment and health. Investments are made in green energy, micro-enterprises and locally produced food.

Discovering extraordinary places that are not only about experiencing, but also about contributing.

Travel that enriches, connects and inspires

Back in the Netherlands, I felt something change. This trip had not only given me wonderful memories, but also a new awareness. Never before had I felt so connected to nature and the people around me. At that time, I already had five years of experience as a personal travel consultant, offering trips to all over the world. But this experience made me realize that I wanted to do more than just offer beautiful destinations.

My mission with Green Steps Travel? To create travel that enriches, connects and inspires. Trips that not only give you an unforgettable experience, but also contribute to a more beautiful world. For people, animals and nature.

Do you recognize yourself in my story? I would love to organize a trip for you that not only impresses, but also leaves a positive footprint. A trip that inspires you - and makes the world a little more beautiful.
